Custom Cables | Rack Prefabrication

Custom Cables

Custom cables are a huge part of my business, and are offered to clients as an excellent value way of acheiving the functionality they require from a given system. As well as the basic options listed below, a bespoke wiring service if offered, providing the client with any cable solution required, including stage snake/multicore systems.

Regular sales include basic 4-way XLR looms and 8-way insert looms; full wiring documentation is supplied with each cableset.

Cable used varies depending on current market price, functions required and application: i.e. whether it is for fixed installation or stage use. Cable types used include Canford and Kelsey. Connectors are always industry standard; in the case of XLRs or jacks, connectors used are always Neutrik. Cables listed as adapters below are wired using Canford Audio FST, in either black or grey; please specify when ordering. Length of adapter cables is nominally 15cm. During manufacture, screen is sleeved to prevent accidental contact with other cores.

Cables can be supplied with clear heatshrink (un-shrunk) ready for labelling, or labelled and shrunk during manufacture. Heatshrink supplied costs an additional 50pence per cable, or labelled and shrunk costs £1 per cable.

Although all cables are hand wired, a quantity discount is offered, and regular/account customers can enjoy additional discounts.

Note that cables listed below are examples and there are hundreds of combinations of connector type, cable type and length that can be supplied. If you do not see the cable you are looking for then please ask.

Rack Prefabrication

An extension of our custom cable sales is the option to purchase partially- or fully- prefabricated racks and flightcases. Partially prefabricated in this context means that all signal wiring for the proposed equipment has been neatly installed in the racks, and if required a mains distribution unit has been fitted and mains wiring installed within the rack. Fully prefabricated racks are an extension of this service, and are fully populated with equipment for the client.

Previous prefabrication projects have included a 10U flightcase, loaded with 1x Behringer UltraDrive DXC2496 Loudspeaker Processor and 4x Behringer EuroPower EP2500 amplifiers, supplied to Evolution Sound & Light for one of their clients. The project featured venting on the front, as well as an XLR and Speakon connection panel on the rear.
